All about our adventures in Oz.

A minor panic.

Well, I had a brief panic yesterday. I read on the DIMIA website (as you do when you’re tired of waiting and busy yourself looking for things to worry about) that I could have got another 15 points as my occupation is on the MODL list. As it happens, I neither need the points nor

…..silence…….

I hate waiting. Our house is up for sale at the moment, but we haven’t had very much interest at all. We’re hoping that’s going to pick up through January. I really don’t want to be in a situation  where we’re sitting on a Visa but can’t move because the Edifice of Doom is still

It’s official

Our first correspondence from the Department of Immigration in Adelaide. Our application has been received. The covering letter explains the ‘how long is a piece of string’ process to come – essentially, between one and four months we’ll be contacted to let us know we’ve been assigned a case officer. Sometime in the one to

Lodgement

It seems a very long time since we received our positive skills assessment. I’d expected a lot of the work that’s been undertaken in the past few weeks to have been done while the ACS application was being assessed, but with hindsight, it makes sense – had the ACS application failed, a different visa subclass

Guhh

Ok, so it’s been in less than a week but I’m IMPATIENT godammit! I’m going to have to not be impatient, because we have a very long wait stretching out in front of us. Still, easier said than done. Anyway, popping in by the migration agent’s office on Monday to pick up out passports, certificates,

It’s in!

The completed ACS docs have been printed out and signed. I’ve just handed a big folder full of completed forms, photos, passports, certificates and god knows what else into our migration agent. They’re pulling it all together and sending it off. So, the first really chunk of waiting starts…….. NOW!

So what’s this RPL thing all about?

A lot of people are put off going down the migration to Australia route, particularly in the IT field, because they don’t have a degree. The Australian Government migration site states quite clearly that a degree is a basic requirement. Well, it actually says that a “recognised tertiary qualification” is a requirement, but let’s not

ACS Drawing to a close

I think I’m making some really progress now. With the assistance of my contact in Australia, I’ve completed the first draft of the ACS application form and the RPL documents. It’s been a long slog because there really is a vast amount of documentation that needs to be prepared. There’s lots of different sections: firstly,
