The christmas rush panic and madness is over, thank God, so life can return to some semblance of normality. Tristan and Matthew are currently gubbing each other with death-rays in Godzilla: Destroy all Monsters. Makes a change from them arguing in real life, I suppose. Don’t know what it is about brothers (never having had one) but they manage to be simultaneously incredibly close and at each others throats.

and I have two very excited little boys. Harmony Constance isn’t particularly bothered (being a mere two years old) but Tristan and Matthew are getting a little, err, hyper. I love this time of year – the whole period makes sense once you have children to share it with, although a visit to the shops can be depressing (if not downright maddening). The frenzy of consumerism gets a little wearing after a while. We were in tesco today doing some grocery shopping and the amount of people we saw who were downright furious because they had to wait in a long queue to buy a 24 pack of Stella (or somesuch) was remarkable. For a time of peace, Christmas really does seem to bring out the very worst in a lot of people.

If all the sponges were taken out of the ocean, how much deeper would it be?

Forty-two minutes until the holidays – hooray! Had a hellish day today. One of our programmers made a slight hiccup in one of his mailing list scripts resulting in one of the recipients receiving 18000 or so emails. Not a happy bunny. As Systems Director, it was muggins job to phone round and apologise. Gaaaah. Still, not as bad as Tuesday and it *is* almost christmas. Still – look on the bright side, Terrapi is still with us (see below!) so it’s not all bad.

On an interesting note – the Standing Order (a rather nice public house on George Street in Edinburgh) had Pictish Ale on tap. It’s a very yummy ale which uses heather as a bittering agent instead of hops.

Terrapi and Terra, reunited again. Terrapi is the well loved faded one on the left.

Terapy!

Tristan has this little beany turtle called Terrapi. He’s had it since he was tiny and it’s a very precious toy. Come to think of it, the wee thing has transcended toy and become part of the family.

Well, against our recommendations, Terrapi went to school with Tristan today – it being end of term and all. All went well until about eleven o clock, at which time….. TERRAPI WAS LOST!

Oh no!

This is about as bad as it can get – Terrapi is practically a pet and Tristan was grief stricken.

So, Debbie coordinated a search throughout the school from home. The school building was combed for the missing turtle and NO WAY! Terrapi was found! Hooray!

But we’re not out of the woods yet – the school was about to close and Debbie wouldn’t get there in time – oh no! How are we going to get Terrapi home in time for christmas?

And then – a brainwave! Debbie called the local taxi firm (who now think she’s bonkers) and asked them to make an emergency run to the school, pick up Terrapi, and bring her home. So, thirty minutes later, a very amused looking taxi driver turned up at the house bearing a tiny little Terrapi in his hand. Hooray! Terrapi made it home for christmas.

sheesh.

I had a crap day yesterday. Wasn’t good. After being up all night with a sick child, I came in to work to discover that our Internet connection was scarfed. Ended up being down for almost ten hours, and as we host lots of sites, our clients were somewhat distressed. Bah. Anyway, now is Wednesday and Wednesday is a very much more rounded day. Full of mid-weekly goodness.
